Addison's Ladybug Party

Addison's ladybug party was so much fun! I had a blast planning this. I had been working on ideas and buying a little along for months. Over the summer I was able to find all sorts of neat ladybug stuff at the local dollar store. Since ladybugs were our theme, everything right down to the food was red and black. (oreos, twizzlers, brownies, etc.) I even attempted to make red and black marshmallow pops. They turned out way better than I anticipated and were a huge hit with the kids. I made ladybug antenna's for everyone instead of party hats using black headbands, black pipecleaners, and red pom-poms. Super easy, no glue required. I printed out coloring pages with ladybugs and each page had a child's name. I used these for place setting's and also as an activity. I placed cups of crayons on the tables along with ladybug stickers. This kept them entertained while they were having their snacks. I highly recommend helium balloons, I had no idea that they would be so entertaining. My brother made Addison junior cornhole boards for her birthday. (Of course they were painted red with black spots) We set these up and let the kids play. We had the party at the community building because there was more space and the playground was right outside, but of course it was raining. I had a few games for backup (stick the spots on the ladybug), but the kids entertained themselves so well they weren't needed. The cake turned out well, given the circumstances; it was being decorated by my mother while the party was going on.  Poor mom, she never gets to enjoy anything, I always put her to work. And somehow, I ALWAYS run out of time. I should have finished it the night before. My mom saved the day, again.

We decided against opening gifts at the party, it was just too crazy. I doubt I could have gotten the kids to sit down that long anyway. We opened them at home later that day (after nap time). I still can't believe that it's been two years. They really do grow up fast...
